What is CranioSacral Therapy?

A light touch therapy that gives your whole system time to pause and reset.

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on complementary therapy developed from osteopathic practice – it can impact the central nervous system and help improve how the whole body functions. Over time, experiences such as that car accident 10 years ago, the ankle you twisted two years ago or a particularly stressful period can leave you feeling tense, restricted or even in pain.

Using very light, sustained touch around your craniosacral system – the delicate structures protecting your brain and spinal cord – Jenny looks for patterns of tension and encourages your body to release restrictions and tightness. CST gives you time and space to tune back into yourself and begin letting go of some of what you've been carrying.

Some people seek treatment for a particular concern, while others include CST in their wider wellbeing routine because they value having regular time to slow down, rest and reconnect with how their body feels.

What happens during a CranioSacral treatment?

1. We assess
Your appointment begins with a conversation about your health, symptoms and what has brought you to CST. Jenny will explain the treatment, answer your questions and make sure you feel completely comfortable before beginning.

2. We treat

You’ll remain fully clothed while Jenny begins at your feet, working reflex points linked to the cranium, spine and solar plexus. Jenny will then incorporate CranioSacral techniques, using a light touch to sense subtle rhythms, tissue movement and areas of tension. Jenny will then incorporate CranioSacral techniques, using a light touch to sense subtle rhythms, tissue movement and areas of tension.

Sometimes, that may be where your symptoms are felt. At other times, the source of the tension may be elsewhere – for example, shoulder discomfort could relate to an older injury in another area of the body. Clients often leave feeling deeply relaxed and more connected to themselves.

Meet your practitioner

Hi, I’m Jenny Barbour, CSS, FHT, ARR. My journey into CranioSacral Therapy began after a traumatic car accident in 2006, when my car aquaplaned into a lamppost. A friend who had trained in CranioSacral Therapy offered to help. I knew nothing about the gentle, light-touch approach at the time, but with her knowledge and support my body knew what it needed to do to heal.

That experience inspired me to train as a therapist and still shapes the calm, understanding care I offer clients today.

My CranioSacral Therapy training includes CST1, CST2, SER1, SER2 and paediatric practice. I continue to develop my skills through training with the Upledger Institute UK. I also hold diplomas in Reflexology and Acupuncture, with further training in Auricular Acupuncture and Butterfly Touch for cancer care.

As a member of The CranioSacral Society, the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) and the Association of Reproductive Reflexologists, I continually undertake further training to expand my skills and knowledge.

I have a particular interest in supporting babies, children, SEND and neurodivergent clients. Where possible, I also offer local home visits for anyone who finds it difficult to attend the clinic.

What clients say about CranioSacral Therapy

"Both me and my daughter have had cranial therapy with Jen a couple of times now. Jen is absolutely amazing with my daughter who can be hard to communicate with. It's amazing how Jen knows what areas are troubling us without a word from us. I have been suffering with pain in my hip for over a decade which Jen picked up on. Following the session I was able to bend forward and touch my toes which I haven't been able to do for years. I have had my first pain free day today for the first time in 13 years."
